LIFE CYCLE OF SILK WORM

  • A tiny black caterpillar hatches out of its egg.
  • The caterpillar eats mulberry leaves and grows bigger and bigger.
  • It goes through 4molts.
  • The caterpillar spins a cocoon of silk threads around itself.
  • Inside the cocoon, the caterpillar changes into a pupa.
  • People unwind the silk thread from the cocoons to weave
    into silk cloth.
  • The pupa changes into a moth. The moth comes out of the cocoon.
  • The adult moths mate with each other.
  • The female moth lays many tiny eggs.

Silk plus products for radiant skin

The new cosmetic formulations are unique and different from the original cosmetics due to theirs contain both the silk extract and freshwater algae extract which consist of high amounts of phenolic compounds and amino acids that play an important role as a skin moisturizer.  Silk plus products have already tested in 30 woman volunteers. It was found that the skin hydration and whitening increased. Furthermore, no skin irritation occurred.  Silk plus products possess the potential utility as a skin moisturizer and whitening product for face.

WEAVING PROCESS

In silk weaving, there are two sets of silk threads. The threads set in a vertical position are called warp threads whereas those in a horizontal position are called weft threads.

The number of silk threads in the shuttle can be control

to determine the level of fabric thickness as the silk fabric

is called 1-ply, 2-ply and 4-ply silk.
